Another Huge Loss For Gm

Recommended Posts

I am afraid that bankruptcy is appearing to be the only way that GM will survive --- that being said, I am not sure that that would be such a horrible thing.

On the other hand, I haven't heard of any immediate, MAJOR, cost cutting measures or initiatives that would lead ME to believe that Waggoner "gets it".

Being a long time veteran of the aerospace industry, I have lived thru many an era where things looked terrible. Back then, we got to the point where copy paper was rationed, ya couldn't get a new pencil until yours was less than 2" long, etc.etc.. Seems silly, I know, but that sent the message that it was "survival mode". Everything, and I mean everything, was scrutinized down to the penny.

At GM, I have only seen a plant closing or two...unfortuneate, but probably appropriate, yet like throwing a penny in the pacific and having someone in Hawaii look for the ripple.

It seems to me Wagonner was thinking, "they'll just keep throwing money our way". a BIG gamble that looks like it will not come to fruition.

*EDIT*

Keep the politics to yourself or to another forum.

Funny I was at my dealer the other day asking about Escalades and one salesmen told me that the media is blowing things way out of proportion and that GM isn't in that bad of a situation. I could have argued, but what do I know .

Pretty typical, they don't want to look desperate. I got the same thing yesterday at our dealer :)

You guys want to wax poetic on your well thought out political opinions, do it elsewhere.

That's the last warning I'm giving in this thread. Next person gets a timeout.

I think that many sales "folks" don't really know much about their products, much less the manufacturer. I was at my GM dealer recently browsing about and a nice young lady decided to "help" me. I asked if she'd heard much about the 5.3/6-spd combo... to which she replied... "you can't get a 5.3 w/ a 6-spd in the trucks". So... I says, the sticker on that truck (pointing finger) says 5.3/6-spd, to which she responds... lets look at the brochure. So, I follow her inside and she proceeds to explain how, according to "the" brocure, you can't get the 6-spd on the 5.3L. I politely went along, and then went on my way. Never mind that *every single 09 crew cab on the lot had a 6-spd!*. This isn't specific to GM... since I had the same experience at a Toyota dealer, but you learn to really appreciate a salesman that takes the time to learn their products.

it seem odd that I can't say the presidents name without it being removed. I didn't mean to cause a stir. Just stating a fact about what is going on with todays economic situation.

Joe,

I'll speak for Mike here....I don't think it's what you said specifically that's the issue, it's what it leads to anytime a discussion becomes even a little bit political. It rarely stays civil.

I agree with Mike and the policy, as much as I like a good debate, I don't come to this site to discuss/debate politics.

Mike can correct me if I am wrong or add any furhter details.

I'll correct the spelling for you in the meantime...

Edit: I believe Jeff is right...despite our best intentions, some of these threads open up whole can of worms on the political end of the spectrum...and then Mike has to remind us again.
