Flex Fuel Engine Q

Recommended Posts

I was goofing around with the vin breakdown from another thread aplied to my truck. I've got a LY5 engine. I found a spec sheet for the engine and it lists it at E85 compliant. I was under the assumption that my truck was not complaint since it didn't say flex fuel. Is it the same engine between the 2 models with the ECU being the deciding factor? I don't want to run E85, but was curious.

Thanks,

Brian

Actually my gas cap is black and I have flex fuel. The gas cap says e-85 on it

I think late 06 early 07 they went to the yellow caps. Early on they were still black

If your 8th digit on the VIN is a J you have the "LY5". To my knowledge and my GM engine spec breakdown its non E85 compliant. I have an LY5 in mine and its not E85.

i dont understand y gm doesnt make all the trucks capable of running e-85

For the same reason you don't use proper capitalization or spell out whole words (why) -- it would be far too easy and prevent them from looking ignorant.

I took it that he was using the "y" as a play on words...

since they were talking about the "y" variant of the engine. :D:D
