Muffler Question

Hey guys im sure theres been a lot of discussion on this in the past and that i should use the search button, but i have tried that and havent found what im looking for so maybe someone can help me out here

I am looking to replace JUST my factory muffler with a performance one. i plan on cutting out the factory muffler and welding in a new one and having a turndown pipe at the end of the muffler so there will be no exhaust tips showing. My question is what are some drop in replacement mufflers i could use to replace the factory one?

i am looking for a pretty aggressive tone, but i am worried about the v8 to v4 mode switch sounding like crap.

Anyone have some reccomendations?

I can't believe that the search feature didn't bring results. Magnaflow and Flowmaster have replacement muffler's.

Yeah, this is a VERY common topic. Regardless, I don't mind helping you out. How much do you want to spend? Corsa now offers replacement mufflers (dB Series Mufflers), and they're the best out there. No drone, excellent sound, best quality, stainless steel, the list goes on. They cost about $250 from what I can find, which really isn't that bad considering how much cat-backs cost in general (especially their own). There are two versions, Red and Black. Red is more mellow (similar to their Touring cat-backs) and Black is more aggressive and loud (like their Sport cat-backs). If that's out of your price range, I'd look at a Borla or MagnaFlow muffler. I don't recommend Flowmaster, as their mufflers really don't flow that well in actuality and sound way too rasping and hollow for my liking. Plus, every redneck and their mom has one.

My Magnaflow is just a replacement muffler. I have a single in, dual out with 3" stainless tips. I'm happy with it.

I'm not a fan of Flowmaster other than Sound... they sound great but on my application I lost low end torque and it rusted out in less than 2-1/2 years.

I highly recommend Magnaflow for the cost,.. and if price isn't a worry, then Borla or Corsa DB for a muffler swap.

Good luck

MODS!

They're everywhere!

Not really, since it was made clear last night that floor mats and bed rails (and anything else available in a catalog) do not count as mods.

Do you have a tape measure? Easy enough to go measure it.

If you are nervous about it, I'd suggest ordering from a local shop and having them install it. You're going to have to have somebody cut the old one out and weld in the new one anyway. No muffler is going to be a "drop in" fit. Most will require an extra length of pipe too.
