Rattle Found...oh Happy Days!

OK....After 1 year of driving my awesome 2008 Sierra Crew Cab around and putting up with a rattle I could not find....

IT'S BEEN FOUND!

I've had 6 rattles since I got my truck. I've found 5 and gave up on the last one...Until now. :D

So..Here's the story....I ordered a new clear lens L.E.D. 3rd brake light and got it yesterday. I removed the 2 screws and removed the light assembly. When I pulled it out something caught my eye. The wiring has been rubbing and tapping in that hole for 1 year now and I could see the abrasions and scuff marks in the paint. As soon as I tapped the wire bundle to metal in that hole I knew I had found the rattle that's eluded me for a year.

Guys, there's no padding in that area and the wiring just tap's away. I wanted to be sure so I put some bubble wrap in there and then laid the wire on the bubble wrap and installed the light assembly. I drove down the street that always drives me crazy....

No F*%kin way....Rattle is gone!!!!!! :dunno: If you have a rattle you can't find somewhere in the back seat area...Try what I did. It might help you as it did me.

I know ...I know....Worthless Without Pictures! I have to go to work now but will update this post with some pictures tomorrow.

Very interesting. I've got a mysterious backseat rattle also, though mine sounds like it's coming from the passenger side, not the center of the cab. I need to investigate it more, but thanks for posting I will keep it in mind.

Still love your truck BTW.

I've got a rattle above the headliner in my 2008 Silverado. Above the drivers head. Need to get in there and solve it. I hate rattles...

Yea i have one in the headliner that's really annoying. I think its a wire going to the light above the rear seat .... lol because im not sure what else they would put up there that could rattle.

I'll take a gander when it gets warmer out

Rattles can be such a PITA. Especially when you are as OCD as I am. I don't necessarily mind em in an old vehicle but a rattle in a new one will make me frikkin nuts.

Glad you found it.

You said you found six different rattles, could you elaborate a little about where and what it was that was rattling, I have one maybe two and would like to get them fixed, haven't had the time to pinpoint where they are coming from.

I had that exact same scenario; took the truck in to the dealer and they found the whole headliner was just rattling against the roof of the cab because it wasn't padded or really secured well from the factory. They installed padding above it and now it's fine.

While driving down the road hearing the rattle, put your hand on the headliner and push up on it; the rattle should go away.
