Rattling Is Going To Drive Me Nuts

Ok I have tried to figure this out to no end. I have a rattle on my Sierra and it sounds like it is coming from the driver's side front pillar between the door and windshield. Anyone else experience this? I have noticed it is slowly starting to rattle in the Denali as well. Rattles are enough to put someone in the nut house!

Could you be more descriptive?

Does it happen on smooth roads, rough roads, different RPM ranges, randomly, etc.?

That will help others identify whether they too have the rattle or not.

It is a random thing. It has done it at all temps, smooth or rough roads. I can go for a week or so and all is well and then bam it is back to squeaking. Dealership is clueless. I did a search but did not find any information about a rattle from that area, but did notice most of ya'll are OCD about rattles like me. Thanks for the quick reply!

I will occasionally have one similar to what you are describing. I found it was the fuse panel at the end of the dash. At the bottom of that panel is a tab/handle that you can feel with the door closed. Next time you hear the rattle, reach under the dash and hold/move that handle. I bet it will stop. If you can't find what I am talking about, let me know and I will take pics.

I have the same problem with my 07 NBS except it is on the passenger side. Dealership could not find it. I happens only at highway speed 70-80mph and not all the time. I can go a week without hearing it and then it comes back for a few days. I thought it might be the weatherstriping flapping around the door frame, but no luck pin pointing it. Any ideas?

Sometimes I hear something going 70 or so on the passenger side. I think its outside though. like hitting the firewall or something.

I have same rattle on passenger side door...sounds like around the handles and armrest...it bugs me to no end.

I have the same issues.. The driver and passenger door will rattle and make that god awful noise that only the people that hear it daily can recognize!! I have a 99 silverado 3 door..

I have the same issues in my 07 NBS Sierra Denali. When I have any music on with bass the console rattles. Found that issue though its acutally on the floor where the sides of the console meet the dash. Where the two pieces of the floor console meet behind the plastic is metal which is creating the vibration. I also have two ticking noises one in the drivers side door and one that sounds like its comming from the dash. Thinking about taking it into the dealership after my leveling kit and tires to have them look at it. What do yall think?

I will explain what I had and what fixed it.

When I got to speeds of 100kmh, I would generally hear a sort of smacking/flapping/rattling. It drove me insane! No pun intended One day I took the truck to the dealer to inspect a loose weather seal, and to have my 4x4 switch installed (the common service 4wd note on the DIC). I asked Rick (the guy I deal with) if he knew what the front pillar noise would be. He said he would have one of his techs take it for a spin to see.

When the tech came out he was about to jump in until I told him it only occurs at 100kmh and over, leaving him no choice but to take it down to the highway. He jumped back out and asked where it was coming from, I pointed out the passenger pillar. He walked over and took a look and instantly knew what it was. He said several truck have had this issue and its nothing more then the weather seal along the windshield. Ironically they were repairing the rear weather seal as well!

Suffice to say, they applied an adhesive to the seals on all areas just to be sure and the noise was gone!

Yours might be the same thing, or it could be completely different.

Ive Discovered a rattle/noise coming from right above my driver side window where the fabric from the ceiling meets the truck frame. Check and see if your fabric is falling from this area and next time your driving just hold it up and see if thats it.

There's a TSB somewhere for rattling at speed caused by vibration between the coolant reservoir and the inner fender or the inner fender and the wheel well liner. I can't seem to find it but Rich or M.Cueva might know where it is.

I believe the fix was to install some closed-cell foam between the mount points.

These TSBs are specific to the GMT900 series but their solutions may address earlier platforms.

I recall seeing a TSB from GM regarding rattling that was said to seem to originate near the A pillar on the drivers side. They determined the cause to be a hose or wire that taps against the oil dipstick tube. The fix was to move the hose/wire under the dipstick tube.
