High Voltage Showing On The Gauge

I'm almost touching the red line of my voltage guage. The odd time the battery light will come one and after 5 mins of driving, I would shut off the motor and restart it to get rid of the light. I'm suspecting a frozen battery in this cold Winter, especially today. Could this be the reason that the alternator is trying to pump more voltage to the battery to get it up to spec? The battery is factory and will be four years old this Aug. Thanks. Stephen.

Problem solved - my theory was right. Bad battery.
