Time For Rotors...?

Recommended Posts

I have an 07 Sierra and I need to replace the front rotors cause of a heavy groove. Which ones are you guys using if you have had to replace them? What about some good brake pads?

You might search "brakes" and "rotors". There have been several threads covering these subjects. They all contain recommendations.

I think just about everything has been covered on this forum so maybe they should just shut it down and let people search through old threads.

LOL

Yeah this site has gone from a great tech resource to more of an off topic spamming forum. Hopefully we can get it back.

Nathan, most rotors sold in the US now are made in China, including many of ours. (CARQUEST) Although I hate this as much as anyone, the fact is there are several quality levels coming out of China. Some are complete junk and actually molded in clay dirt. We have great luck with ours with no issues at all. We also handle a severe duty rotor from Raybestos that is US made and is drilled and slotted. I really cannot recommend them unless you are doing some type of very agressive driving or towing a lot.

On the pads, I can make 2 solid recommendations and can promise you will not be dissapointed in either. Raybestos mfgs our Blue series cermaics call BCD. This is our mid grade pad and a real smooth quiet pad with little dust. If you want what I consider to be the best, take a look at Akebono. They supply us with our PCD gold premium pads. We have been selling them about a year and the shops we have using them, absolutely love them. Very quiet, smooth, almost no dust and they offer great pad life. If you look for Akebono outside of CARQUEST, you will need to look at their Pro Act series.

Nathan, I'm just curious...have you talked to your GM dealer? My '08 had a scored front rotor with less than 3000 miles on it. I was told "this is normal" and if it starts to make noise or pull, or shimmy to bring it back. So just a month ago, with 10,500 miles, I took it in for another issue and told them to take a look at the rotor. They accually have a service bulletin describing the "normal" scored rotors!!!...something to do with the pad compound. And they will not replace unless the owner complains about noise or pulling. Before my warranty is up, I will probably complain....and insist they replace the scored rotor. It's funny...the normal stuff only happens on one side of the vehical???? If you look at other GM SUV's and trucks, you'll see alot of scored rotors....It's my only gripe with my new truck.
