Bowtie Off

I want to paint the bowtie black and I have pulled it off the grille itself but how do I get the gold peice off the chrome peice? I started on the back and after breaking the back bowtie I started debadging and I like the way it looks. I would make Daddy proud.

On a second note. I like the black bowtie look but I am eventually wanting the billet mesh grille from billetanything

Anyone know if there is a cheaper version of this somewhere. I want the whole thing not just the inserts but don't want to pay 1300 bucks for it.

Yes, yes you have! :dunno:

As for painting the front bow tie, just tape it off, scuff it and then paint and clear. I haven't heard of anyone taking off the gold section but I'd suggest heating it would be the only chance you'd have. I'd not recommend trying that though.

BTW, how sure are you you want to go with that mesh? Personally, I'm not feeling it.

I'm with daddy on this one...I don't know what it is, but something about that mesh grille doesn't flow with the rest of the truck.

Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing a center bar on Silvys...or maybe if the outer frame were body colored or less pronounced? :dunno:

Oh yeah one more thing. I ordered the Highbeam lowbeam fog light thingy mabob from mr. taillight so I can have all my lights on for night back road driving. When I ordered it they asked if I wanted a switch for my fogs. I thought, why would I want a switch I already have one. well when you do this install your fogs wont come on with just the low beams. so its all or nothing basically. My point is, how do I install the switch so if its foggy as hell I don't have to have my highs on just to get my fogs on, which would defeat the purpose of fog lights if you highs are on. How do I wire it? Anybody know?

P.s I will post fotos tomorrow of the debadgin I did. :dunno:

Yeah I see what you're saying about the chrome around the grille. I would get black mesh and black color on the edge where the chrome is.

since adding the 6lights on at one time by mr taillight one of my fog lights isnt working. Its actually the one that I didnt have to tap into when I added the kit. Any thoughts?

Mesh grills are a BITCH to clean bugs out of.

Yeah... and if not perfectly executed, the look really cheap (even though you spent a ton)

May as well replace the GMC/Bowtie with an eBay badge. :dunno:

Well I painted the bowtie myself and after my results I'm not going to buy a mesh grille. It was very easy to do. Here are some pics.

After

It looks kinda crummy on the top but since painting it or maybe the weather here in the dfw makes dust and dead grass stick to everything. Lots of static. So disregard the dust on top everywhere I wipe and stop is where it ends up.

Some of the debadging I did. Still waiting to get the 3m Adhesive remover.

Oh and about the fog lights. I guess the lights get more power when you actually have the truck running instead of the key being in the on position. So thats that. Now I just need to find out how to wire a backup camera to my tailgate and put in the bezel I ordered.

Lots of those mesh grilles look really cheap. That one looks bad to me with the flat chrome steel suround.
