I wired mine in with a mercury switch on the side of the tail gate, lower the tailgate and light comes on, wife likes it when she is out shopping. Close the gate and light goes out, works pretty slick. Got the switch off of a old car I had from the trunk light.

i have 5M of strip lights coming, some for under the hood, and the box of course. a mercury switch is a great idea for the tailgate. i found one but looks kind of big(http://www.sonicelec...and-SWMERC.html).. where exactly did you mount it?

I mounted to switch to the inside of the side of the tail gate, you can see it when gate goes down, dark outside right now or I would go out and take a picture. I siliconed the switch to the side and ran the wires to the bottom of the gate and up the side of the inner box. Someone else might do it a neater way or different but it works for me.

Could probbly use and alarm hood switch the kind that is basicly a long adj push button

I have my LED's, but I haven't had the time to get a set mounted in the truck yet. I know it's not a truck, BUT I did get a set mounted in the 10' R&R clamshell snowmobile trailer. All I can say is, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! Since it is fairly cold out, I mounted the LED stirps to 1/2" wide, 1/8" thick Al flat stock, then zip tied it to the trailer frame. I have about 15', or aprox 270 LED's in the trailer.

I wired a 7way harness up so the LED's have constant power without having the parking lights on. Wired them into the factory dome light switch. I have even kicked the idea around of mounting a small 12v battery inside the trailer to power the LED's if the trailer is unplugged (which I will do when we arrive to prevent accidental battery drain!). I also added reverse lights, just need to aim them. And hope I like the lights I bought! Lol

 

I ordered the LED's from Hi-Autopia on Ebay, and ships from the US!

 

Now to get the truck wired up! I will post pics when I get it done!
