New Dude Needs Help

Hi there, as you can see, I'm new here and would appreciate any help you guys can give me. I've got a 1997 k1500 which I recently got cheap. It needed a trans (4l60) rebuild and transfer case (243c) rebuild whiich I had done. I just put the truck back together and it's stuck in limp home mode.

Before this happened while I was trying to get it started It ended up needing a fuel pump too) I has the transfer case trying to select hi/lo backwards and forwards with the truck parked so I un plugged it (the transfer case). when I shut the engine down I now get a sound like a relay clicking from under the dash for a minute or so after shut down and with the transfer case plugged in again, it now won't select anything.

As I'm In Australia and these things are fully imported, info is hard to come by.

Any ideas??

THANKS, Michael

Hey there and welcome to GM Trucks!

Not too many suggestions for your transfer case. It sort of sounds like an electrical issue. I'd start with tracing the electrics for the transfer case to make sure they are all good.

Was the transfer case and trransmission operation correctly before the rebuild? If so, you may of pinched or crushed a harness upon re-installation causing a short.

Not sure, I bought this thing at auction for way less than market price and when I got it off the tow truck it needed the tranny rebuild... Black metallic oil and wouldn't shift gears, but I'm sot sure if that was because the trans was rooted or if it was in limp mode.. I pulled the auto and xfercase myself and got the trans rebuilt but did the transfer case myself. Nothing seems to be wrong with the wiring harness, I've pulled out every wire and can't find anything wrong. I'm waiting for a code reader to arrive in the mail.
