Well, you can't say he didn't earn it. Although he's not my favorite, he is one heck of a driver.

I just wish the Yates boys would have better luck. I don't want to see a runaway points race. If they aren't fighting to win at Atlanta, it makes the whole season seem anticlimactic.

As a relative Newbie to NASCAR, why does everyone think so poorly of JEff Gordon? Any particular reason or something(s) he has done?

I think it is because he came on so strong, so fast, was a relative no-name, and a lot of people think he didn't earn his dues and that he's had everything handed to him.

He was raised to race. That kid was driving a full blown sprint car when he was 14!

When he was first successful in WC, he had a bad habit of saying, "I did it.", with no credit going to his team. I think Ray Evernham cured him of that, though.

A lot of people said all his success was attributed to Evernham, too. He proved those people wrong.

NASCAR fans want a villain, and he is it for a lot of them.

How about Robby Gordon having the cockpit catch fire?!?!? Maybe it's a sign from the racing gods for him to finally leave NASCAR and go back to open wheelers.

In all my years of watching races there I can honestly say that was the most boring race there I've seen W/ the exception of those last 2 caution flags. Only 3 guys went off into the gravel traps. Nobody spun through the inner-loop. The only interesting parts were Both Jarrett spins, the crash in the esses on that 2nd from last re-start, and the last 2 restarts all-together.

Oh yea, I'm glad Gordon finally learned how to do a good burnout. :biggrin:

I just don't like the image he brings to NASCAR. I also think he's annoying.

I suppose he earned it, if you call not having to compete with the best car on the track because it caught fire and had to quit, earning it. I think Robby Gordon would've taken him. But other than that, yeah he and his team earned it.
