Factor Order A 2009?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to purchase a 2009 Sierra (retiring my 97 Yukon shortly), and was planning to get the Sierra pretty much fully loaded (SLT, All Terrain pkg, etc). Since I plan to keep this truck for 10+ years, I was thinking it would be best to factory order to ensure that I get exactly the options and colours that I want. Well, I just started talking with my local dealer, and he told me that it was no longer possible to factory order a 2009.

Can anyone confirm if this is true, and if so, when do the 2010's start production? I'm just wondering if this is just a way to get me to "settle" for something already built in my area?

BTW...I'm in Canada if it matters (Toronto area).

Thanks...

Greg

Let me double check but I think you still can.

Yeah,End of May is usually about right, although it can/has changed for certain years/vehicle models.

If you want something really special it might be worth it but you probably will lose out on a lot of the discounts / rebates they have going, I have to imagine a lot of them are only for vehicles in stock. (don't hold me to that though, I could be wrong) I'd have to imagine if you open your search up a few hundred miles (or KM  ) you should be able to find something pretty close to what you're looking for.

As far as the ordering, is there a reason you DON'T want a 2010?

You get the same discounts/rebates when ordering. You get what's available at time of delivery though, not at time of ordering.

My guess is this is precisely why he wants to order an 09 instead of a 2010. Better discounts on the 09s.

I ordered mine in Jan 07 and I negotiated invoice pricing plus all rebates, which ended up being $2k at the time. Plus I got 0% for 36/mos. So I paid 2K under invoice plus 0%. Not bad for that time.

Based on what my dealer is telling me, there appears to be only 1 2009 Sierra SLT with the All Terain package in all of Ontario, and it is Onyx Black with Ebony leather seats. I wanted to go with Stealth Grey and the two-tone Ebony/Lt-Titanium leather seats. I could probably live with the black exterior, but just don't see the point in having the All Terrain package without picking up the much nicer looking two-tone seats (IMHO).

As for discounts...as far as I can tell from the small print on the GM Canada website, the current incentives do not mention "in stock vehicles" only, so I'm thinking that they still apply to an order. I will make sure to confirm though.

Also, I don't necessarily need to buy right now (current truck still runs great) so I'm not excluding the 2010 option. My original plan was to buy a new truck next year, but with all of the great incentives at the moment, I decided to test the waters now. Are the specs of the 2010's out yet, as I haven't seen them posted anywhere?

Thanks...

Yes,But as Jeff mentioned earlier..you get whatever discounts/rebates/incentives there are at the time of sale (IE-When you actually sign the papers) not whenever you order.

I did the same thing Jeff did, ordered mine the second week of Jan. 07,it arrived Mar. 13th,I got GMS pricing plus $3k in rebates (I had to finance for 5 years though so I'm stuck at 6% APR  )

If I remember correctly at the time I ordered it there was only $2k in rebates, but it increased $1k before it arrived.

Yes, you are correct, it's a bit of a crap shoot as to what will be in place when I take delivery, although an invoice report service I used (Car Cost Canada) seems to indicate that the current incentives are in effect until June 1st. I would think that might be just enough time to put an order in and receive delivery...if not, then I would have to hope that the incentives wouldn't get any worse and possibly be even better with the 2010's approaching.

Yep,Its a crap shoot on what discounts/rebates/incentives will be out when you take delivery.

Considering how the plants have taken away shifts, closed for weeks at a time and whatnot, if someone can't get a new truck delivered in the next 6-8 weeks GM deserves to go under and not return.

I've been to GM, Ford, and Toyota plants and all they do is start with a build sheet and everything gets added down the line according to that sheet. The parts are all in stock on the shelves, so theoretically they should start production the day after you put the order in.

Well let me tell you it don't work that way,This is the first truck I ordered where I had it in 8 weeks.

I special ordered 3 of my previous trucks ('91-'94-'97) and they all took at least 4 months to come in.

The '97 K1500 I had,We ordered Aug.24th of 96,It came in the first week of Feb.97 :rollin:

Theoretically, that's the operative word, for sure.

I know when I wanted to order a truck YEARS ago, they told me something along the lines of 2 to 3 months, might have been longer. It seems like they have the production schedule well in advance and when you order your truck it goes to the end of the line, NOT the front of the line, like you think it should, or like any reasonable person would think. Because the bulk of the scheduled production vehicles will be built and go sit on a lot somewhere for a few months anyway, but that's how they do it.l

When I ordered my BMW it was similar with one key difference. My dealer was able to reserve a car that was already on the production schedule, and then modify it to suit my needs. the basic configuration had to be the same, but I was able to pick the color and options and thereby have a car sooner than if I simply ordered one in the usual manner. This would be like if there was a CC 1500 shortbed with a 5.3 4x4, that was going to be built in may, and that's what you wanted, then you could take that truck and choose the options you wanted, but if you wanted an extended cab, you'd have to find a different truck. But my case was BMW and this is GM so they most likely run it differently, especially with their current situation.

PS, i stand corrected on my statement about discounts.

Hey Greg. I had to order an All Terrain as there were none in BC and only 3 in Alberta that the dealers there would not send this way. I ordered on April 1st and got the dealer to protect the $7,000 discount (which may be more depending on what the discount is when I take delivery). He could not price protect the $1,000 GM loyalty offer, but this may still be avaliable when I take delivery. So far, I have got $11,700 off the MSRP.

Yep exactly,The production is planned/scheduled ahead in advance.
