Dealers Suck...can't Fix Crap

Well I had my truck in their shop ALL DAY yesterday and just picked it up, and they can't even find the problems I had it in for- tranny not shifting properly and the brake light switch...They blamed the tranny on my "oversize tires" which are only about 6% bigger than stock and the brake light switch is "functioning according to specs"...Idiots...No more dealers for me! The only plus is my service writer only charged for an alignment which I've needed for over a year.

I can understand your frustration but unless there is REALLY an obvious shifting problem with a trans, it is pretty hard for a tech who has never driven your vehicle to take it on a test spin and find an issue. If no trouble codes are reflected in the system, it's anybody's guess. It's not like he can just keep driving it all day waiting for it to act up. I'm not defending the dealer 100% but there is no magic crystal ball just because they are a dealer. The brake light switches on these trucks have been a topic of conversation many times in here. I would think they should know about that.

Ranger, I took mine in with the same complaints. Mine is shifting weird in-between 1-2 it’s hard to explain it like lugging a manual when you shift, but not from the start. They told me the same thing, they drove it and it appeared normal – tested other like vehicle same feeling, and all the line pressures were within specifications. Just more of a reason to save for that BB Tune. I tried finding the TSB for the brake lights, but I tend to get errors when I try anything more that 1-2 words, so give this TSB a shot #08-08-42-003.

If your vehicle isn't stock, thats there way of not even trying to find it by blaming your mod. They always finish up with, "If you return it to stock, we'll look at it again".

Some dealerships suck!

I'm just gonna buy the switch and do it myself, screw the dealership...They'd probably put it in upside down anyways.

Here is what the dealer has to follow to service the vehicle.

A truck that has different tires and wheels will have Engine power/performance concerns, Transmission shift concerns, Speedometer registered speed concerns, and Cruise Control concerns.

Before any diagnosis is performed for these types of concerns, inspect the tires/wheels for the proper tire and wheel combination's.

If a truck is found to have other than the above listed tire sizes, no further diagnosis should be undertaken until the original size tires and wheels are reinstalled on the truck.

The Engine Control Unit (ECM) and Transmission Control Module (TCM) use (RPM) and (VSS) inputs as operational parameters for engine torque, transmission shifting, cruise control operation and speedometer indicated vehicle speed.

Calibrations for different tire/wheel combination's are not available.

Therefore changing of tire and/or wheel size should not be undertaken by dealerships or truck owners.

Warranty Information

Reinstalling the proper wheels and tires on the vehicle, prior to performing any type of diagnosis of the truck, would be considered truck owner responsibility and not a warranty repair.

Get to a shop that has the equipment to verify and/or re-flash the tire size that you have on the truck into the computer, wich can absolutely be done regardless of what the dealership tells you. Even the input that the computer is getting from the difference in tire size, however small, can throw the shift points way off, and may be the whole problem.

I would not go to the dealer even to use the restroom.
