Do We Really Need A Lockpik?

I've seen some threads about using the Coastaltec (SP) Lockpik to unlock the "not while you are moving" features of the NAV and XM.

 

When I installed a factory NAV in my '03 I was told I had to connect the VSS cable behind the dash. I didn't have time to do that when I finished but soon found out the unit functioned perfectly without the VSS and I had NO interlocks keeping me from doing what I wanted.

 

Is it possible that we could just find and cut the VSS wire on the newer units as well?
