Trailer Brakes For 06

I have a factory towing package on my 2006 5.3 crewcab. I also have a trailer brake controller that we removed from an older silverado and I would like to put it in my truck. How do I need to go about hooking the brakes up, do I simply plug in under the dash or do I have to do additional wiring? Thanks.

Depends on how old the other truck was that the controller came from. I'm using the controller that I used in my 2001 Silverado, however, the wiring hookup is different between the 2 model years. My brake controller has a wiring guide that tells me what color wires control what feature. The new trailer wire harness that came with my new truck also has a wiring diagram explaining what color wire controls what feature. I spliced the wires together and plugged it into the wiring panel under the dash. I also had to install the fuse under the hood. It was very simple and is outlined in the owner's manual. It took longer to hide the wires than it took to actually wire it all up.

perfect information, thanks that is helpful. The controller is wired for a 2003 and plugs into the under dash connection, but I didn't know about the fuse issue. Pages 1-3 of the search didn't turn up any answers so thank you. I'm glad to know its covered in the manual as well.
