Hey I got a 1990 454 SS. I kinda figured that the freeon in the truck is low. But when I turn the vent on it does cool slightly when i change it to cold but My opinion its hotter then normal. Of course when i change it to heat it acts like the heater is on and its hotter then hell. So lemme know what you guys think.

Because it cools slightly, you could have some condeser/drain clogging. If you are particular about A/C, have it tested. If you're like me and can take-it-or-leave-it, mess around with one or two things yourself and go from there.

Looks like you need to get a sense of humor. :D

Yes, you could be low on refrigerant. You won't know for sure until you hook up a set of quality gauges and find out your hi and lo pressures. Is your system R-12 or 134a? I don't remember what year they converted. Don't just start adding refrigerant until you diagnose it for sure. With 134a overcharged will produce undesirable temps just like undercharged. Never add anything that has a sealant in it. It will only cause future problems and rarely works as advertised.

R-134A wasn't mandatory until 1995, so its R12 system.

You might check the air temperature door actuator. They break quite often, right underneath the glovebox. Remove the glovebox and there it is.

Also, make sure the door itself moves freely at all ambient temperatures.

Calm down Darral. --- ChevymanBK. is in fact, my brother :D

and Ross you might need House AC gauges like mine to read what pressure you have. If it is still R12 the R134a tap wont connect to your AC port, and you cant mix the 2. Youll need to go to a Air conditioning shop and get filled with R409a or find some R12 cans and a hose/guage on ebay.... Jackass!

Good point.

Also this vehicle may have been converted which sometimes is another can of worms.
