Can someone tell me if the truck has to be suspended in the air completely or can i simply raise it up in the front. And is the a pretty easy fix..? I'm mechanically inclined and can pretty much fix anything but would not call myself a mechanic..

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

So this is what's causing the pop or clunk in the floor when I turn (usually on uneven ground). I've been to the dealer 3 or 4 times; the last time I just yelled at them to fix it before the G..D... warranty runs out! They replaced the intermediate shaft in the steering column. It actually seemed better for a little while but now it's back 2000 kms later, and I'm out of warranty. It'll be going back in, I'll be bringing this, and they better fix it, because it's the same problem I've been complaining about since the truck was new.

I am sure glad I surfed this post as I have been looking for this part for awhile.

Thank you :P

BTW: If it really annoys you and you don't want to wait, you can use chunk of copper water piping about an inch long with it cut in half to make 2 semi-circles. I slid one piece between the "insulator" and the metal (inner or outer I can't recall) and tapped it in place with a hammer. It's been quiet since (almost 2 years).

Check the torsion bar crossmember bushings (1999-2007 Classic). Been seeing alot of these separating, causing clunks. The bracket that houses the bushing is rivited to the frame. You can buy just the bushing, at least for the Avalanche its available separate from the bracket. All the pick ups I've done, I've just replaced the brackets which include the bushing. You can torch the rivits out, but be carefull not to heat the frame up. I take a cut of wheel and "X" the rivit heads. Then I air chizzle them out. Use hardened nuts and bolts, with red lock tight to reinstall. Then, I spray rubberized undercoating on the nuts, bolts, and the area of the frame I was using the air chizzle on.

Yep,We've been seeing this issue at our dealership also,I started stocking the brackets w/bushings,and some bolts/nuts to replace the rivets.

How many miles are you guys seeing on trucks with this torsion bar issue?

Mine (2006) went with 58,000 or so on the clock....got both done (only one was broke)....ABS sensors cleaned (low speed activation)...for $132 out the door

I have the same problem, wonder if anyone has had it fixed under warranty.
