I have to give it some gas to start the truck, It will just crank without pumping the gas? I changed out the Fuel filter with no luck, It still has to be pumped start?

Does it sound like a fuel pump?

Fuel pressure regulator. Had the same problem with my '99. I had to crank the truck for about 5 seconds and floor it for it to fire.

Most of the time, you can hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key to the "on" position. Have a buddy turn the key to on while you listen. If you hear the pump prime, then it is most likely not your problem. If you don't hear it, then is it a safe bet it is. Good luck.

Also, in my opinion, it is easier to get to the fuel tank from the top. We lifted the bed off a freinds truck, and it was a heck of a lot easier that it was when I lowered the tank on my Jeep. Lowering the tank is awkward, and very difficult. Lifting the bed was much simpler.

I changed out the Fuel Pressure Regulator and i think it fixed the problem! It seems to start right up with no long cranking!

Had to be the easist thing I have fixed in a long time! Even changing out a lamp is harder than the regulator!

Thanks for all the help!

Next Project, Fuel pump on 2003 Monte Carlo, When the fuel gets below a 1/4 tank and you turn it off and then try to start it in a couple of minutes all it does is crank, If you let it set for 20 minutes of so, then it starts right up!

Sounds like part of the fuel pump is not Submerged and get hot while running?

Any ideas?
