2006 Silverado Sounder

Gentlemen,

I have a 2006 Silverado 1500 and the interior sounder is getting louder. For a while I thought it was just me but isn't it supposed to be that as we get older our hearing fails... it doesn't get better. Anyway, passengers have started to complain so it isn't just me. The internal sounder is getting louder, with all functions. It seems especially loud when I first start the thing, those first couple of bongs almost hurt my ears.

Has anyone ever heard of this and if so, what the heck can I do about it. The dealer says it's supposed to be that way, go figure. I would even be OK with removing it completely, I don't really care what else it sounds for, I do have eyes and can look at the dash just fine. The sound is driving me nuts.

Any help would be appreciated. I have not even crawled under the dash yet, thought I should ask if this was a common problem first.

Thanks

Chris

Things like this can be a bit complicated with newer vehicles. Does the sound come out of your stereo speakers? Or does it come from under the dash somewhere.

If it comes from an electronic "gizmo" under the dash, perhaps you could put some tape over it to quiet it. And the proper tape to use for these types of things is always "duct tape". :D

If the sound comes out of the speakers, you would need to find an automotive electrical type person perhaps a technician at a stereo shop or auto electric shop who would also have a set of factory wiring diagrams for your vehicle or you could order these from a GM dealer.

Then the electrical "guru" would need to look at the diagrams to see how this operates. And see how it could be disabled or modified.

With newer vehicles, there tends to be many electronic modules (small computers) which do this and that and they are connected by a "local area computer network". These "talk" back and forth to each other. And part of the "talking" is to be sure each module is working ok. The computer connections might also be used for other things like onstar or important backup safety warnings for air bags or whatever. Anyway if this was the case you would not be able to just "cut" such a computer wire connection. The vehicle would have "fits" and you might have all sorts of trouble!

But it might be possible to disable individual sensors which cause the beeping.

The sound comes from below the dash, not the stereo speakers. I will need to verify that for sure but I believe it to be a seperate sounder....

Dude,

When I was a young man that might have been a problem but it's been a LONG time......

So, back to the original question. The sounder that goes Bong Bong Bong when I start the truck has gotten louder and I want to shut it off or tone it down. Any Ideas?????

Thanks

The only sounder I have is controlled through the DIC. I can turn it up or down.

Sorry for my ignorance... What's the DIC. When I open the door, sit in the seat, start the engine.... The truck make three loud Bongs about one second apart. Are you telling me it shouldn't do that?

Thanks
