Service 4wd

I should just ask one of the ex GM mechanics I work with but... My 2000 keeps poping up "Service 4WD" in the info box. But it does this randomly and doesn't allways stay long. I know there is a glitch in the sending unit for the fuel and it acts up randomly but am guessing they aren't related. Do you think it does need serviced? If so what does it consist of and can I reset this the same way as the oil reset?

My 2003 K2500HD did this a couple times. Mainly when the temperature changed quickly for some reason.

I had it in the shop getting synthetic all around, and the guy offered to update my computer. One of the updates was supposed to fix the SERVICE 4WD message. I haven't seen it since.

 

It sucks that you have to pay someone to update it. I paid around $75 I think. He had the machine, and I'm sure he didn't get it for free.

replace automatic transfer case switch. those are notorious to go bad due to bad soldering points

or, you can pull it out, remove cover, take pencil with eraser, and clean contacts.
