Set Timing 01 4.3l?

I had to have a head redone due to a bent valve. Now that the head is back in and top is put back together, i need to know how to set the timing, cause apparently i have done it wrong????? Guess what im asking is, how do i replace the distributor so that the engine will be timed right before i tighten it down?

This information would be in a factory service manual set for your specific year/model vehicle (order from a GM dealer). Look in distributor replacement section. Also information on under hood emissions sticker.
