I have located a 2009 2500HD LTZ. The salesman told me I could put a plow on it. It does not have plow prep. Is this salesman trying to sell me something that wont work for me? Any thoughts?

Thank You

You can put a plow on pretty much any truck - but without the snow plow prep package you are missing a few things (this is the 2008 list, it might be different for 2009);

- Roof lamp provisions

- 160A alternator

- Skid plates

From the Chevy website, this is what is included in the 2009 package;

Includes

- 15-amp power for backup and roof emergency light,

- high-flow front bumper,

- forward lamp wiring harness,

- Provision for cab roof mounted lamp/beacon,

- instrument panel jumper wiring harness for electric trailer brake controller

- and Skid Plate Package.

per boss plow web selector you need a minimum 4800 lb front gross weight rating ,should be on the driver's door post sticker ,as stated before you can put a plow on just about any thing with the correct up grades 7 1/2 super duty rt3 with smart hitvh 2 would be my choise .i have one on a 01 2500hd w-4600 lb frt ,but i cranked the torsin bar's ,but i belive you have coil over struts ,you might have to go with timbren load booster's . and put about 4-500 lb of balist (tube sand work's )behind the rear wheels in the bed .

mine has a 6.0 but i know plenty of people the have the dmax and have a plow as long as they have the plow prep or timbren load boosters .

Not saying it couldn't be done, but dealer wouldn't install them :thumbs: They claim the extra weight of the Dmax is to much for the suspension with plow :dunno: Since you have the 6.0, it's not a problem as far as the dealerships are concerned.

Having "been there and done that" I will warn you that some/most/not all

dealers are gunshy and will not warranty so called "plow related breakage"

on NON VYU plow prep option trucks!

Don't believe everything a salesperson tells you. Ask the service manager

first!

VYU plow prep is avail. on reg cab diesels only and most other combo gasser

2500/3500s as well as 1500 reg cab trucks (GM only).

Problem with putting plow on a truck with a diesel is the extra weight from the diesel engine. What should be done, but probably would be too costly for automakers to do it, is beef up front end for diesels. I have a friend that bought a new F250 a couple years back and put on a fisher V plow, and literally only had about 1/2" or less clearence when plow was raised becauce of the weight of the diesel engine. He had to get timbrens installed, and they charged him close to $300 to install them. Not really sure what it costs to install them, but he spent alot of money for that plow only to plow his own driveway which is about 200-250 ft. I guess it will take about 10 years or more for the plow to pay for itself. I personally liked the older style Fords leaf springs in front, cause you could add a leaf and beef up front end if need be.

you can pick up timbrens on line for about between 170.00-200.00 then put them in your self or 300.00 installed aint bad .
