I Owe It All To You Guys!

So, I haven't changed my own oil since, I don't know when. I believe it was some time in 1998 or so. Today, I made the switch to Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30. I couldn't see myself paying $80 at the dealer or any other place for that matter. I went in to Costco to pick up some other stuff and noticed 6 qts of oil for $30. I said, 'ah, what the heck.' It took me all of 20 minutes (took a drink of my beer  ) to finish the friggin thing. I can't believe that I was paying $40 every three months (had conventional oil) for some kid to change my oil. Damn, I'm lazy!!!! I'm glad I did it and I owe it all to you guys on this site. I've always worried about messing things up, but little by little I'm doing more things on my truck on my own! Thanks guys and sorry for the long post.

Good job man. The only cool thing you get from those places is the cool little sticker in your windshield.

They have the little rolls of them by the oil at my local Checker/O'Reily's so I got that too!!! LOL

Im on the 5k cycle.... if my odometer is divisible (evenly for all you wise crackers  ) by 5,000... then its time for an oil change/tire rotation. No stickers necessary

Next thing you know you will be pulling the engine apart to do a ring job and replacing the crank bearings. Yeah, there is a certain amount of pride when you can do you own maintenance.

Good job.

I want to switch to synthetic as well and do my own oil changes. $100 at the dealer is a rip off. Do you need to lift the truck up at all? And I'm guessing the 6.2L requires the 5w30 as well? What filter?

That depends Jas,if there's enough room for you to crawl under it,then no.If there isn't pick up a couple of ramps so you can drive up on 'em to raise the truck.Be sure to fill the new oil filter before you start the engine.I'm assuming the filter is vertical...

the filter on my 454 is horizontal so I can only put so much in it and get it on before the oil runs out

I'm lucky,my Burb has plenty of room under it,I can even use a creeper if I want. That reminds me,it's time for an oil change
