2002 Yukon 5.3 Fuel Problems

Hello everyone. My Yukon is acting rather wierd lately and i dont think the problems are connected. I could be wrong seeing as though im not a mechanic and just guessing. I ll start with the problem that has been going on the longest. My truck will not start when my gauge shows less than a 1/4 tank. I had the fuel pump replaced about a year or so ago and hoped that might take care of the problem. That was unsuccessful. Any thoughts?

Second is my truck just started running poorly with trouble accelerating then would die. It would restart after a few minutes but then do it again. It did this awhile back and stopped once i had the fuel pump replaced until last week. Surely it isnt the fuel pump again already. I havent put 3000 miles on it since i replaced it. One guess i have is that wife said she put gas from a gas can at her friends house when she drove it and it wouldnt start. The gas might have been bad or had trash in it. If that is the case would i be able to pull the tank, replace the filter and fix the problem or is more involved than that? I know its alot, but I would greatly appreciate any feedback from you guys because im at a loss and could see my self spending lots of money at a dealership if i cant fix it.

I would try replacing the fuel filter first.

Then there is a LOT to a fuel system. Not just the pump!

The following discusses all the components involved. Certain problems can cause a fuel pump to fail before its time. Best to test/check/service all this stuff...

Yeah. I know it can get pretty complicated but i was trying to keep from taking it to a shop and the big bill. I figured i would try what i could starting with the fuel filter, then tank removal to get the potentially bad gas out. Anybody know how hard it is to remove a tank?
