Anyone Replace Rear Rotors And Found The Parts? Anything Better Than S

So my rear rotors have warped and was told they can not be resurfaced. I was told by GMC that I have PF9 brakes but no one can find the part numbers. I am trying to find replacement rotors, that are better and will last more than 40,000 miles.

Rotors rarely ever warp - Here is an article from StopTech that speaks to warping. Generally, quality rotors, from OEM or quality aftermarket, without slots or "drilled" are the best. Better brake pads may help, but they won't last as long. We are talking about tradeoffs here - better stopping means shorter life.

Maybe it is rare, but it happens. I can attest to encountering warped rotors on the front of my wife's Infinity. They pulsated under heavy braking. When I pulled them and turned them, they were indeed warped. They cleaned up and they're fine now. I've personally seen at least several disks that were warped. These were all verified by measuring the runout.

 

What can cause warping is residual stresses from manufacturing that were not properly removed by stress relieving or improper stress relieving. If a disk has residual stress, it can cause the rotor to warp when heated high enough.

As referenced in the article, the runout may be caused by pad buildup on the disk, and this causes runout and pulsation through the the brake system. What the article is saying is that they appear to be warped, but in reality may not be, and therefore the ultimate solution is different. That is, a "better" rotor is not the solution, better pads are. Most non-high performance applications see this over a long enough time span that it is not normally a big issue. High performance applications, where StopTech does its business, this can occur in a couple of hours, or less.

 

Also, from my experience with our '94 Suburban, my wife could "warp" the rotors in less than 20,000 miles with stock equipment - improved pads (Hawks, I think) meant she never did it again. Trust me, she didn't change her driving style.

I'll be putting new front rotors on within the next few thousand miles....mine also pulsate under heavy braking.....I wonder if it has something to do with the rear disc setup....for example...my last two trucks before this one were an 01 and 04 with Rear Discs...never had any trouble with those, but this one and my dad's 06 have rear drums.....we just had to put new front rotors on his at 50K...and mines at 41K now..

GM was using rear drum for decades before going to rear disc and never had issues.

my truck pulsates pretty good when braking. brake shop said rear rotors are warped and need new ones but they cant find any. GM place says they can order some for $400 each. I am not putting $800 into new rotors. do you guys know where I can get some new rotors. They are indeed warped. I would like to get some better ones than stock.
