Clay Bar A Trailer And Cleaning Rims

I'm in the process of claying my 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer (20 ft not count the V nose) after years of use. I usually wax it twice a year before winter, but this year wanted to do a little extra. Anyways, I picked up a Turtle Wax clay bar kit last week and today decided today was the day. Got up early and washed the whole trailer and started claying. Well I didn't get it all done but about a 1/3 of it done considering all the other things going on today. I know that I'll need something more to lube the clay bar and was wondering, what else can be used? Also my brushed aluminum wheels have some corrosion on them and what can be use the clean them?

Best bet is to get the stuff that comes with the clay kit. You can use soapy water, but it will break down the clay.

Use a "quick detailer" type product as lube...similar to Meguiar's Quik Detailer for exanple.

Probably not. The clay bar will only remove any embedded surface particles. The yellowing is probably the clear coat on the wheels deteriorating. A mild polish, like ScratchX might be able to remove some of the yellowing. Of course you can try the clay bar, it won't hurt.

Probably not. It has been my experience yellowing is due to poor clear materials or cup prep. Environment will increase/decrease the time it takes something to yellow.

Another bottle of Quick Detailer (QD) is all I would use. I seen a video at www.autopia.org and the guy actually dilutes his QD 50/50 with water, says it works fine??

I take it your sled trailer is a smooth sided one? Mine is grained like wood so anything, even a wax is going to be a beatch to do but I am going to try.

I think my brother mentioned a Porter Cable orbital buffer that has an attachment to use with clay bar systems. That should cut the elbow grease requirement down considerably. I was clay bar cleaning my 08 this last weekend and only got about 2/3rds done. Pain in the arse to do, but it's the best thing out there. I use the Meguire's clay system, including the Quick Detailer for the lube. Meguires is probably laughing all the way to the bank on the QD stuff. It's probably mostly water with some odorizer and dash of some liquid wax.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping that there might be something around here to use, but it looks as if I might have to run to the local auto parts store.

 

Irv, yes it's smoothed sided, but screwed on. Working around all those can be fun
