Brake Issues 07 Nbs

So my truck has been having some brake issues and was wondering if anybody can help me figure it out. The main symptom is that when I come to a stop the truck tends to shake. The last 3 feet of my stop tends to jerk as if one of my brakes is locking up. I took it in to have the brakes looked at and the back drums were almost gone. The front pads were still about 70%. I had them replace the drum pads and turn the front rotors. I am having the same issue. Does this indicate that something is wrong with my braking system? I do have a 1.5" leveling kit. Is this causing my drums to take on all of the stopping power?

There are some new electronic gizmos which incorporate braking into the system to help achieve the desired effect. Braking is a last resort in these systems.

One is traction control. You press the pedal to the metal and a rear tire starts to slip, the computer, after trying other things, would apply on/off braking to that specific wheel to keep it from slipping. So I suppose a lot of very fast starts with a system like this could wear out the rear brakes quickly. (This feature is bound to wreck the fun of teenagers everywhere!)

Then I think a leveling system might also use braking as a last resort as well.

And of course ABS, if it notices a tire starting to slip, will "pulse" the brakes on that wheel on/off.

I suppose it could be your driving conditions as well. If you drive on a lot of rural roads with rocks/gravel at each stop sign, then your tries are going to do more slipping when stopping starting.

Basically to find out for *sure* what you have in your vehicle and how these systems work, you would need to go to a GM dealer and have them print out your RPO codes. This would tell you which specific options you have installed.

Then look in a factory service manual set for your year/model vehicle and read the description of operation for each of these gizmos. This will explain in *detail* how each system functions.

A good "geeky" book on all this new stuff is "Automotive Electrics Automotive Electronics" by Robert Bosch. You would not believe some of the stuff in this book like cruise control with radar, headlights which auto level, and headlights which turn the direction you are turning!
