Electronic Rust Protection Vs Krown

Hi Folks,

I'll be ordering my 2009 Silverado this week (although I'm not crazy about the 10-12 week lead time) and have been asking about Krown rust protection. There's a shop literally 1 minute from the dealer that offers Krown, but the GM shop is pushing (or rather only offering) the electronic anti-rust device. They're touting it as being the best thing since sliced bread. $999 seems a little steep, but it if works it's worth it. That being said, from what I've been able to find online so far, it's a gimmick and doesn't offer full protection like they say.

What are your opinions, and what do you suggest for a new truck hitting the road in Canadian salt/slush country ?

Thanks in advance,

Rhino.

I installed an electronic device on my truck (not a GM Product) as I have heard that this technology has been around quite a while. I have not had it on my truck long enough to know if it has made a significant difference though. Time will tell...

By the way, I purchased mine at Canadian Tire for $250.00 on sale - it's called 'Counter Act'.

Good luck with your decision.

What model truck are you ordering? The 09 Crewcab production is over.

i would go with the krown for sure. I feel like its a better product then the $1000 box. I think the dealer is pushing for the box because they will make 0 off the real way to do it witch is the krown.

Them f*chers lied to me if you were able to order yours. I was told that CC production ordering was only until June 30. I'm gonna give that effin general manager a piece of my mind.

This was from the dealership owner, but it could be false info. I'll know more this afternoon.

What has everyone been paying for the initial 'Krown/other' treatment? They don't need to drill anymore, given the plugs/access points are already in the doors & panels, correct ?

Krown will still drill a few holes.....personally, for me, not a big deal. Never heard of any vechicle rusting around the plug holes.

For your truck, expect around $140 or so for Krown. And that's yearly...but worth every penny.

My friend has had a 'Burb on order for about 5-6 months now. They have just about told him to go away in so many words. He's gonna go buy something else from some other maker like Ford or Toyota. His company does work for Toyota and they said they'd 'take care of him', so he may just go that way even though he likes to buy American. It's a company vehicle, he owns the company. Hell of a way to treat a loyal customer that has bought at least 4 or 5 Suburbans over the last 20 yrs or so.

Ordered the rig on the 21st. From what I understand, I should receive my 'build week' within 10 working days. Fingers crossed!

Cool.....over the next several weeks, you'll feel like a kid on Christmas Eve. ;)

Rear caliper seized in the van (to be traded in) on Tuesday 2 hours after I placed the order. $85 and a few beers later it was fixed, but I want my rig NOW :lol:}
