Yellow Check Engine Light

I recently brought my 2007 Silverado into a dealer to check this out. I was charged $83 for the diagnostic that revealed it's a code P0449 and was told that it will cost an additional $200 to fix it.

Since it's technically an engine light shouldn't this be covered on my 5 year/100K mile warranty?

Thanks.

The 5yr / 100k mile warranty is on the powertrain, not bumper to bumper. I looked-up that code and it appears to be related to the air conditioning system. So, unless you're still under 36k miles, no, it wouldn't be covered under warranty, unless you bought some sort of extended warranty.

I take it your '07 is out of warranty (36K)? the 5yr/100K is only on mechanical engine and powertrain and to be quite frank the 5/100 sucks. It covers a limited amount of items most know to never break. All the stuff that has been normal issues in past models ain't covered.

I may be wrong but I think the P0449 (Vent Solenoid Control Circuit) is a for the gas vapor recovery. If it is, it is pollution related item and should be covered under the 100k mile warranty.

I searched google.com for GMC, then went to that website, then at the bottom was "Contact Us". I clicked on that and found the phone number.

Then I looked in the back of my GMC owner's manual and found the phone number there too!

The number for GMC customer service is...

1-800-462-8782

Then I did the same for Chevrolet and found the following number...

Chevrolet Customer Assistance - 1-800-222-1020
