1999 - 2002 NO CSK, NO knock -- WHY???

What does the BUILD date (not purchase) state on your drivers door or elsewhere? NO KNOCK ONLY, please.

Very difficult to create this poll because only ten choices are allowed.

Batch build dates in which supplies are sent to manufacturers are helpful in determining a common-denominator for any defects or problems. Perhaps this topic can determine a common date on when the NOT knocking trucks were made.

Not really enough data is here to build up a real conclusion, but I'm thinking that the issue is a design issue, rather than a batch issue. I was hoping it was a batch issue.

Where is the build date?? I looked on my door and found stamped in it : 032501

That could be translated into March 25, 2001 but I am not sure if thats the build date or just a random number?

That is indeed probably the build date, as you assumed.

Just thinking out loud, but what about location? I think there might be something behind this since I have never even heard COLD start knock here in warm Fl.

Well, location and a lot of other values would make this a more valid survey. VIN number range, and a lot of other stuff.

The key thing, though, is more entries, the better the survey will work. The survey is yet to be accurate, but as it is, it seems to me, with the few numbers we have, that the year 2000 build is the main culprit for CSK.

Regarding temperature and Florida. Nah, I'm on the Texas coast. Texans down here close schools when the temperature drops below 30 degrees.... Well, not quite, but cool weather is common, but cold weather is not. If CSK exists on a vehicle, Florida would be included.

Wow, thanks for the info on Castrol. Kinda confusing after reading the messages in that link as to the evolution of the "right" product in the U.S.

If you guys want to hide that knock..... Use German Castrol 0W-30. I changed my oill 1500 miles ago and no knock yet. I live in MN so the temp in the morning is 15 degress or so. Its starts up just fine and no knock. I also used a STP oil filter. I bought the oil and flter at Autozone.

Theres two different 0W-30 that castrol has, make sure you get the right one.

Read this to understand German Castrol 0W-30

Are the motors built in the same plant that assembles the trucks? If not, I don't think actual truck build dates will determine anything concerning CSK. Motor build dates maybe.

CSK is usually common with motors containing "forged" pistons due to their expansion properties and needing to be slightly smaller when cold as compared to cast or hyper pistons that don't expand as much with temps.

lol, it was late when I posted and someone must've voted in the poll and brought it to the top of the forum so I really didn't pay attention

Most of the truck engines are built in Romulis MI but some are also built in St Catherines Canada then shipped to the assembly plant and sometimes there is a difference of 2 to 8 months between engine assembly and the time the engine is installed in a chassis.
