Beat A Tundra

Saturday Night, at a stoplight. A truck pulled up behing mine, could tell it was the older generation Tundra based upon the headlights. The guy decided to move over into the lane next to mine, I glance over and he and his girlfriend are sitting there. V8 i-force badge on the truck, obviously not the more powerful V8 used in the newer gen but I figure ok, no big deal. The guy did his thing of glancing over at me, with that "Oh please.. Whatever." look, I look back, but eyes more focused on the girl who is also looking over at me. I figured if he punches it off of the line, then fine so will I, he is likely going to want to try to cut over in front of me and take a turn up at the next light about a mile down the road and go into the sports bar, however being in a pissy mood, I really don't feel like being cut off tonight, and I really did not want to see the ass end of a Crapota truck either. Out of the corner of my eye I notice the light for the other direction turn yellow, and then go red. There were no vehicles turning so our direction went green right away. Sure enough, he jumped on it, and I was ready. He got ahead about half of a truck length for about 2 seconds and his engine was making that silly retarded import V-8 high reving noise, as I quickly passed him at 45MPH when my truck shifted into 2nd. He continued to fall behind slowly and then finally gave up and moved on over into my lane. I let off of the gas at about 75, at least 5 or so truck lengths in front of him and then started scolding myself for being stupid, not going to the track to do this, endangering the public, all that other stupid bull crap that you people (and I) lay into others who race on public streets. No, there were no other vehicles around. Yes, I was stupid for doing it but it sure as hell felt good, considering I hardly ever do any stop-light racing. Yes, if I got a ticket I would deserve it, oh well.

Nicely done, I'd have probably done the same. One of my good friends who lives in Seattle drives the older model Tundra. He loves his truck - not to the point of annoyingness - but he's proud of it. You know, like a guy who has any truck should be. We joked around about who's would win in a stop-light race, but he was pretty sure his would win. Then he came to visit over the Christmas holiday and I took him for a drive in mine. 30 seconds in the drive he says, "Well, nevermind. You win."

Nice kill! The whole girlfriend looking over thing really brings back a memory - almost identical situation. My Cavalier (Ecotec) vs a Honda Accord. Kicked his ass for a good 10 mins (on and off the whole time complete with the 3 horn honks on the roll). Longest 'Illegal' race I've done. Not proud, not ashamed either though.

You have to do it every once in a while.

Public safety definitely takes back seat to destroying the ego of an import owner. Proudly defending the honor of American iron is a civic responsibility. Good job. BTW, the girlfriend was yours at the next light. It is customary. No doubt she bailed knowing his future was destined to be head hanging shame and Viagra augmented manhood.

Meeting up with my friend in Daytona for the 500 who drives an 07 Tundra. I give him crap all the time on how ugly it is and he rants on about how it will beat my 08 Silverado. When I pick him up from the airport I am going to give him the keys and say have fun in a real truck.

He has always been a Toyota guy with his Tacos first. Then he went to a Dodge with the Hemi and got rid of that POS 6 months later.
