Sliping Out Of 2nd Gear (c 10)

So, of all the small problems I have left on my truck, probably the most annoying is the 2nd gear which slips out under load. It doesn't do it every time it's in 2nd, but it does it fairly frequently. I have exchanged the gear oil (which it definitely needed). You can keep it from slipping out by merely keeping your hand on the gearshift, so it's not slipping out with any force. I plan to pull the forks out and exchange it with some used ones if they are look better. But does anyone know what problems can cause it and how to remedy it?

Check the shift linkage. You may not be completely engaging the shift or gear. If this checks out, then the synchronizers need rebuilding.

Not sure how much of a linkage I have and how much that plays into it, on this year of trucks the shifter directly interacts with the forks. And I'm not sure how to rebuild the synchronizers, I just have a Haynes manual for this and I tried looking for something more substantial online with no luck. So, any info could help would be appriciated.

Some of the syncho's are bad, it will be worse if you give it a little gas and then back off. If you work at it you can learn to drive it like it is. On my 86 2500 truck I never used the clutch but to take off and after 100,000 miles it got where it would jump out of gear if I got on it hard like when pulling a load unless I held it in gear. Just one of the problems with a manual transmission. They are not expensive to replace but now finding someone who can rebuild a mix master will be your biggest problem. :dunno:
