There's a new Suburban sitting in my driveway

It's a 2001 K1500 Z71.

Should I get the Gale Banks Power Pack:

Anybody have that?  How much louder is it?  I want to keep it quiet.

What sort of transmission mods are available? Something to make it shift a bit firmer and prolong the life of the tranny?

How about this:

What chips are available?  I know there's a Jet chip and Hypertech Power Programmer.  What else is there?

Also, how often do the plugs need to be changed?  Does this engine use those 100,000-mile plugs?  Or "regular" plugs?  How difficult is it to change them?

What other forums exist for Suburban owners?

If it's a new suburban it's got the long life plugs.  If you want firmer shifting and more power go with a Hypertech Power Programmer.  The banks power pack is just several components all sent as a package.  There are several different exhaust set ups you can get.  I'd go with a flowmaster personally.  For 40 bucks you can get a k&n drop in filter for some added power.  go to www.truckperformance.com I'm sure you'll find a lot of stuff.  Any more questions feel free to ask and welcome to the forum.

Hey are you from ls1.com?  Your name looks really familar!!:(

Josh

I've been there a few times.  I mainly post on the Corral and TurboBuick.com now.  Not much happening on this board.  Are there any other boards with more traffic for us Suburban owners?

Another question: Where is the sticker located that shows what all option codes are installed in a Suburban?

Here's the oficial GM low-down on your 5.3L.

A hyper Tech Programmer will adjust shift points/firmness/engine power curve/speedo etc...  They are about $300 (I think).

Welcome to the forum and keep on asking questions...  we'll try our hardest to help you out.

lyonsd,

Welcome and Congrats on the new Sub!  As you already know there are great people here at this site that contribute good info.  While this site is very good, the link below will take you to the updated "Suburban site".  Since I have 2 Subs and 1 pickup I spend about twice as much time over there ;) and find the folks very helpful over the last 3+ years or so.  Here is the link:

See you there,

BIG BLUE

P.S.  Also, you will find the following link to a web site designed by a guy named "#1 Son"  He is a regular at the Sub forum that took the time and effort to store many archived posts from the Sub board (since the search function doesn't work so well).  There is 3+ years of info at his site, just about anything you would want to know.  Here it is:

I noticed on the Duramax-equipped trucks, there's a transmission temperature gauge under the "Message Center" in the dash.  On my Suburban there's nothing there, but the gauge cut-out.

If I were to add a supercharger, is there a decent boost gauge available that will fit in that location and look "factory"?

I believe the transmission temperature gauge is included with the 6.0, 8.1 and duramax engines. The smaller engines do not include it even though it would probably be most useful on them.
