Just like title says.

Can I turn off the AFM System using a Tech-2 GM Scan Tool?

Any of you had this done?

Any of your GM Dealers doing this for customers??

I want more info...we have 3 Tech-2's at the store...

I read a few posts where members are stating that their dealers are turning off AFM.

Why don't you just go to your dealer and get them to fix the problem instead?

1. They already attempted a fix...a PCM reprogram...and it accomplished nothing.

2. There are NO ses lights, or other warning lights, which makes it even more difficult.

3. I haven't really decided on my next step yet...

Do they aknowledge there's a problem?

If they do, I'd tell them to give you a loaner, and keep the truck until they find out what's wrong with it and fix it. There's no reason a brand new truck should be shaking itself apart.

If they say it's "normal", ask to drive a different truck to see if it does it.

Yes you can my friend just got his done this weekend by westers in tilley alberta canada and it made a big difference in his fuel milage and power this was in a new 6.0 the dealership in Red deer alberta sent his truck there because it just sucked all around power fuel milage and the truck had a shutter to it like the truck needed fuel or something hope this helps

OK...I'm trying to make sense of this post. But where he says "Yes, you can..."is good enough for me.

Tomorrow AM, there will be a Tech-2 on my 08 Sierra, and I will post all of the results here. I'll see what can and cannot be done...

Firing a 120 mm armor piercing round at point blank range into the engine block will also turn off your AFM. Guaranteed.

I would take it to the dealership - give them the 3 times to fix it - if they can not fix the same issues 3 times lemon law and go get something else -

All this AFM talk has anyone done research on the Impalas/ Monte Carlos that have AFM - are there as many complaints with them as with certain truck owners?

NO and why would you want to turn off a fuel saving device? You must have money to burn.

I can only speak for my truck but AFM is a joke. The best mpgs I ever say was 18.2 on a 900 mile trip keeping it under 2K rpms getting passed by traffic. Otherwise I am getting 13-14 mpg. That is rediculous. I could get 16-17 in my 04 no matter how I drove it.

So when I had this truck tuned, I had the AFM disabled. One because it is useless, and two, because i knew I was going to get the exhaust done and I didn't want so sound like a ricer while in V4 mode. Also, my milage stayed the same if not better with AFM disabled and the tune.

It would seem to me that afm would be more effective on a vehicle weighing a ton or more less (the Impala) than our trucks. To me it is absurd to think that a 3 ton vehicle can operate on 4 cylinders for any signifigant amount of time and with noticeable fuel savings. AFM is a joke and is already proving to be more trouble than it is worth. GM should scrap the entire thing and go to proven fuel saving technology like light weight materials and 6 or higher speed transmissions. Yes, these technologies will cost a lot more than AFM but if you bought a truck hoping to economize on fuel then you had better be prepared to pay the price.
