I have 2001 gmc 1/2 extended cab 4.8. I stop at a friends and when I went to leave the truck won't start. I turn the key and all the lights work, but it will not roll over. Could it be a relay or the sercuity engauged. I cleaned all the terminals even the starter but no luck. How do I restet the sercuity?

Thank

Neil

It could be ignition switch too.Or loose conection, hope your park/neutral switch is not causing the problem.

Let us know what you found.

I don't konw if it is the theft or not. I was just reading some of the other post and seen it was refered too. Why do you say you hope it is not the park , neutral switch? If I put a scan tool on it will it tell me even if won't start?

My truck came with a aftermarket remote installed. I hear this is not a good thing and that this could be the problem. Did anyone else have a problem with a aftermarket remote. I am trying to get some ideas before I drive out to check more things.

If you use vetronics corp scan tool, which is dealer tech,it will only shows if dtc's are stored in any controllers,it will also show you the data, which you have to compare with good and same vehicle data with you truck to see what is going wrong.

Why i said park/neutral switch is sometimes we don't even think about small things, check ignition switch too.the truck wont goes in theft mode unless someone fiddle it with diffrent keys.on some vehicles if vehicles goes in theft mode you can crank it,but you wont get injector pulse to run the engine.

Regarding you aftermarket remote,it has nothing to do with engine cranking. It has link with only remote control door lock module.

2003 silverado 2500 hd, same problem intermittently for 6 mths. turned key, dash lights work, doesn't turn over. AAA said battery was fine. Next morning ran ok. read manual, to reset security, step outside truck, press lock/unlock simultanously 15 seconds, security will synchronize. first time it worked. However, four weeks ago and again today, same problem. A friend told me they had same problem and changed fuel pump/filter; no more problem. I may try that. may be a switch connected from passlock security to fuel pump. No one can steal truck by using other key. Passlock only recognizes a certain key. don't think my problem is security.

The problem was a terminal rotted off of the solenoid. I could not see it till I dropped the starter. Hope this helps anyone else. Solenoid only cost me $29 Canadian. I live in Nova Scotia.
