Okay,

Sorry if I seem new but I am. I have a 98 chevy silverado ext cab that i have bought brand new from a dealership in north Texas. I couple of years ago, I noticed that when the temperature outside got pretty cold my tranny would shift into first gear pretty hard. This would occur only when it was cold. As of about six months ago, it is doing it all the time. It is really noticeable only in first gear. Since then, I have replaced all of the u joints(front, center, rear) and my tranny guy put a refurbished valve body to see if would fix the problem.

A good friend of mine who works at a chevy dealership said that the problem would go away if I had the imput shaft to the tranny lubed up.

I am no mechanic, but I think it is a vacuum or pressure issue. Since the valve body has been changed, i noticed that the problem still exists and my overdrive tends to kick in even at very low speeds and of course the shift points are different.

What do you recommend w/o tearing into the tranny if it doesnt really need it, pleasee help????? I am on a budget.

shift into first, you mean from park to first? i know when its cold out on my blazer it likes to stick a little longer then normal. i just took that has its normal wear and tear for 100k miles. that and the fluid is thicker so its not going to shift as smoothly.

+1 its a pretty normal thing. i have the same truck and when it is cold it does the same thing. don't worry about it. as long as you've changed the fluid i'd say you're good to go. these trannys last a really long time.

i couldnt really pin point.. i know if the transmission starts to detect slippage in first gear... it will shift harder to compensate. but if its been like that for a couple years.... idk.

Thanks for the reply, I really wished someone could help me out. sometimes I think it is a broken mount, As I said before, I replaced the carrier bearing and the old u joints, tranny service kit, and of course the rearend service kit.
