  1. I'll buy that. Had more than a few myself.?
  2. I read it the same way. My concern would be why have all these additives if they don't help for the first few thousand miles? That's the critical time isn't it? Kind of proves diyer's point then. Why spend the money? Buy the cheap stuff and change at 3000.
  3. Take it to a dealer to get it checked. You should have some power train warranty left at 52k.
  4. Use the search and put in "gas pedal flex solution". There is a long thread on symptoms and solutions. Easy fix.
  5. I have the 3.42 gears and overall pretty satisfied. Usually check MPG's on runs up to our camp approx 75 miles from home. 8 miles at average of 40 mph, then 57 miles on the interstate with cruise set at 70, then another 7 miles on back roads around 45-50. If I'm running with nothing loaded it gets 15 mpg, 20.5, and back to 15 again. About 17-18 average for the trip. If running loaded: groceries, utility trailer with a John Deere lawn tractor, weed eater, gas, and any tools I might need (2200 lbs towed), and 2 adults it drops 1-1.5 mpg to 16-16.5 for the trip. Quite happy with this. It's 3 mpg better than the F-150 with the 5.4L and 3.55 gears I traded in. Not sure if there would be any benefit going to the 3.23 in my case IMHO.
  6. I'll give another positive response to this fix. Didn't experience the lag in response all the time, but occasionally it would be slow to speed up on turns at intersections and such. Biggest thing that bugged me was when you want to override the cruise control and it needed a big push to gain any speed. When I first checked it didn't appear to be flexing. When I pulled up on the pedal it moved quite a bit and after doing that, pushing down lightly the flex would be there. Didn't have a paint stick laying around so I taped a couple of 1 in diameter washers together to use as a shim. Worked like a charm. Throttle responds instantly now.
  7. Well even a blind squirrel gets a nut once in while.
  8. Probably not a good idea, that will get you Krylon lawn chair paint and Flex tape.
  9. Keep at it Grumpy. Your determination is refreshing. The "Show me" attitude keeps the drive alive.
  10. This is absolutely true. The American Petroleum Institute no longer uses the term "Synthetic" in their documentation regarding standards. "Full Synthetic" is a marketing term and is not a measurable quality. It may not have Dino oil in it, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a good lubricant.
  11. Then those are probably ideal for your needs.
  12. That's not a Bronco competitor. Probably will have a big price tag too.
  13. Sorry, think I mixed you up with someone else on the vibration deal. That LTX is a highway tread. Pretty much useless here in the snow belt. We average 180 inches of snow from November to April (those in the upper Great Lakes and Canada get more. It's an hour to the Canadian border from here). Truck wouldn't get out of it's own way with that kind of pattern.
  14. That is a really good looking tire and wheel set up in your picture. More sidewall would help the harsh ride some people experience. The vibration you have at 70 mph, if you didn't have it before, is likely the tires or wheel balance issues.
  15. "Highway" tires may very well ride nicely. The tread pattern is a lot less aggressive than most of the tires these trucks come with. They're 3 season tires if you get any serious snow. I don't think it's really a case of being anti-20 inch wheels, more a case of narrow sidewalls riding rougher than wide sidewalls.
  16. To the OP: wheels and tires are cool and some are really sharp, but if you go bigger/taller it will show up in less responsiveness. It just takes more energy to turn bigger meats. I would look into a lot of the suggestions here on tuning to get more out of the engine. These Gen V engines are pretty good across the board. Somebody out there must have something for the 4.3.
  17. I have that exact size with black factory wheels. They do look good, but "comfortable" is not the word I would use. Passable fits better but they run smooth without vibration and handle well enough at 32 to 33 PSI. Any more pressure than that and it gets to riding like a buckboard.
  18. Morning after pulling it from storage.
  19. Good luck with your next vehicle.
  20. Had a 1999 Sierra with half back doors so GM has had them at least 19 yrs. Ford did beat them with the turbo Aluminum costs a lot more than steel and Ford has a partnership with Alcoa, but they are still looking for the "payoff" it has cut into their profitability. Push button starts are a waste of money. Just a gimmick. You still have to get in the vehicle to start it. Still have to carry a FOB to do anything. Feel sorry for your neighbor. We all get a junker once in a while. Good luck with your next vehicle.
  21. Do you have a picture of it? I have the floor shift also. Thanks
