1998 5.7 Engine Knocking

my 1998 5.7 will take a few seconds to build oil pressure upon a hot restart and it makes a lower end knocking sound. truck only has 77k on it and is mint and i am the orginal owner.any thoughts on this? am using ac oil filter

What brand of oil do you use, and how often do you change it? Miles/months.

has been changed every 3 months 3k miles since new valvoline max life and ac delco filter

If it just started doing it, it might be a bad filter with a defective anti drainback valve. You could also try a WIX/NAPA Gold filter, see if it's any better.

 

Other wise, just live with it. They all make a little noise at startup, some are a little louder than other, some are noisy a little longer.

I had a '97 that did the same thing, almost like the oil pump lost its prime on hot restarts. Sounded like a rod knocking to me. I changed to synthetic oil which helped lessen the knock and shortened the duration, but did not eliminate it. Drove it that way for ~70,000 miles and sold it to a friend who has put another 70,000 miles without any engine work. YMMV
