I tried searching, but didn't find anything. Since a NNBS wiring harness isn't available, I wonder if the standard cruise control harness can be modified to accept the radio wiring. I looked at my harness, and it has 3 open slots in the plug to the SIR coil, so can it be as easy as picking up a pigtail and adding the wires to the other harness? Could any of you who have a harness handy check it out and let me know what wires go to the radio controls and where on the plug they go?

Thanks!

P.S. Maybe some pics of the connectors would be helpful

Damn, nobody has a harness out of the truck right now? I guess I will have to wait until I head back to my parent's house and pull apart my father's new truck to trace the wiring!

I have a used gray avalanche steering wheel with the controls that I'll look at when I get home.

The SIR coil connector has letter designators for each of the wires as follows:

A - Grey

B -

C - Light Green

D - Brown

E - Pink w/Black stripe

F -

G -

H - Dark Green w/White stripe

J - Tan

K - Black

The connector to the radio controls is not labeled, but looking at it from the top/front of the steering wheel the wire colors are: Black, Brown, Pink w/Black stripe, and Light Green. Your Cruise control wires should be (not in order) Grey, Brown, Pink w/Blk, Dark Green w/Wht, and Black.

I don't know how the controls work with both sharing three common wires but it does????

Wow, I thought that they would go to the open slots and just have a wire or two shared...guess I was wrong! Thank you so much for checking this out for me! Looks like it should be fairly simple to tap into those wires and add the buttons without buying another wheel!

I just bought a steering wheel w/ audio controls. After I read this post I figured I would take some pics while I had the wheel apart cleaning it. Hope this helps along with Gil85's post. The 2 smaller plugs are for the switches, the Black w/ 4 wiresis for the audio controls and the gray is the cruise. Both are from the top of the plug.

Have to work on sizing images, but here is the black plug. If you already have cruise then you can see the wires going to that plug.

Hi all. I just purchased a 2009 Silverado 1500 LS and like to know if I can add steering wheel controls for radio and if possible for cruise control later.

Thanks

AHHHH!!! i used to make those steering columns...i worked at delphi in michigan...i cant escape that place! ha ha.

on a side note, you can modify them. i dont know the exact way to do so, but i know you can (having built them for 2.5 years...ya learn goods and bads about them). like the fact that half the columns are made by drunk people. :D

Joe, welcome to the board! As far as adding cruise and audio controls, you may be better off starting a new post about how to add them. The steering wheel change/ audio control addition is mainly for a truck that came with cruise control. To add the cruise, I imagine (but am not sure) that you would have to add a wiring harness to the column and a BCM programing/replacement. Once again, a new post would probably get the traffic you need to answer your question.

P.S. Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up getting a good deal on another steering wheel, so I didn't have to splice any wiring like I first thought I would have to.

Glad all worked out for ya! I just added the controls myself and love them. Had em on my 07 but my 09 didnt come with em! Didnt think i would miss them. I thought wrong :D

Thanks for the insight. It looks as if I won't be able to or at least at this time as GM will not allow the BCM to be reprogrammed to allow cruise to be turned on in vehicle that came without. DAMN, Never thought I'd miss it either. :D

Man that sucks! I mean really whats the big deal. Sounds like they just dont want to mess with it. I already had the cruise. Anytime I have taken my truck to the dealer to have something programmed they have never given me the line of Oh we cant do that or anything along those lines.

Well maby someone here has added cruise to one of these style trucks and can help you out!

I have a 2009 chevy silverado. The cruise control buttons are on the stearing wheel. I would like to add the radio contros on the stearing wheel. Do I need to add wires to the stearing wheel column or are they already in place. And any idea where I can buy the radio control buttons.

Thanks for your help
