Chome Removal On Wheel ?

Recommended Posts

My 2001 2500Hd has the original chrome wheels on it, the type with the cheap tin layer over the wheel, Well they are getting dull and something has happened to make the center lift, this prevents the center caps from going back on,

Has anyone removed this tin cover??

I'm thinking of taking this off ans painting the wheel...

Sandblasting would be the hard way. Stripping chrome is best done by a chrome plating professional. I used to have the chrome line of a doorlock mfr's under my supervision and I think the best way to remove chrome is nitric acid. You don't want to be near that stuff, trust me. Easier/cheaper to get some painted wheels from the junkyard. You might be able to rough up the surface of the chrome by glassbead blasting and paint right over the chrome. Seems like you should take this opportunity to buy some cool alum wheels.
