Remote Start

Well, my remote start has been acting up lately. At least 4 out of 10 times it won't start up completely (cranks but just dies suddenly) and then requires physical ignition with key. I would have thought these things were more reliable, so am I alone or do any of you guys have the same issue? Any advice on a fix? Thanks in advance.

So far, mine has been rock solid....and I use it fairly often.

Every time I use mine it works fine. Someone else was having an issue, and I think it turned out to be that there was a DTC which prevented it from operating.

No probs. 14,000 miles on an 08, use the remote once/twice a day.

Wierd! Yea, thought it was just my truck too but needed to make sure. I've got a remote start on my 08 Malibu as well and it has never given me an issue. I'm thinking it might be a bad install, I got it done later as an accessory not originally in the truck from factory. Thanks again fellas, I will look into it as I have been concerned for a while now.

I believe mine is an aftermarket product, but it was dealer installed. Mine, consistently, probably, 80% of the time, will not start it on the first try, more commonly when its cold (or since I'm in Florida..."not at full operating temperature".

 

I've no idea what the settings are for it, but it's done it since I got it at 30k miles...and sometimes, more recently, since 50k, has sometimes not started until the 3rd time...and it will always just keep trying every 8 or so seconds until it starts it. Usually the second try is an instant catch. I wish I knew where the settings were for it...but since it was a dealer install up in Michigan where it was originally sold...and I'm not the original owner...that sort of stuff is a little hard to track down..especially since I have every sales document that was seen that day, and not one thing more descriptive than "step tubes and remote start included" is to be found.

 

So I live with it. But its...very irritating.

If it's an aftermarket install you'll have to talk with the installer. If you don't have the remote start prep package, I think they had to do a lot of extra stuff to get it working. There could be any number of issues.

Very irritating indeed! And wish I can talk to the guys at the Chevy dealer I got it at but its back in Vegas, I'm in OR. Don't know if I can get it taken care of up here without it costing me a ton of $$$$. As for the type of remote start, it is a GM Accessory (same that most of you got originally on your trucks from factory). Just wish there was a way to tweak it or adjust it, sounds as if it just needs one more second when cranking and it might start up fine.

Since it's the regular system, it should work just fine, but you'll probably need to talk to a dealer.

Mine works 100% of the time. I use it almost every day.
