Transfer Case Leaking?

i was driving home last night to hard shifts and a weird noise coming from underneath my truck. so i pull over and look under and im greeted with black crap all over my tcase and it looks like a bit of oil on the skid plate underneath. the trans started to slip a bit before i pulled in my driveway. what do i do? what is this?

what do you think you should do ?,you take it to a technician with a hoist and he'll find the hole in the t -case where the oil pump wear guide lives which has broken and now there is a pin hole ,your t- case is now empty and cooked ,you must of course have this verified by a dealer who see this all the time ,I have had the case halfs repaired at a local welding shop and saved the customer some money .if its cooked you'll need a set of bearings and chain ,and shift forks or a whole rebuilt unit ,chk your trany oil level,they are not connected with the same oil but sometimes the t- case input seal piles up and takes on the tranny oil ,one pic shows the case area where the pump tang lives and the oil migrates all over the place the hole is there just covered with crap.good luck ,take it in,don't attempt this one yourself please

where should i take it? its 10 years old. aamco? anyone know of any good shops in the so cal area?

Looks like your tcase pump wore a hole in the t-case. Do a search for transfer case hole and you will find some info. My 2004 2500HD did it. Cost about $550 to have repaired. Labor plus rear t-case half plus a part called the "case saver" that will prevent this from happening again. Here are pictures of my t case hole;

Today i was doing my oil change and was looking around underneath to notice that my transfer case was leaking. i had recently had the problem fix because its something that the shop broke when i got my new transmission put in. All i know is for me and everyone i know transfer cases have been a big problem as we can not get quality work done on them.

well 135k and not a problem till 10years later... i cant really complain. does anyone know of any quality shops to get this done at in so cal?

you should either take it to a dealer or a shop that works on 4X4 ,dealers know these t cases inside out and can provide you with an estimate and you have options,if you can replace it cheaper than fixing it ,that is what needs to be done first is a quote but it needs to come out and apart by someone who has seen these things alot .not a corner garage
