What To Do?

I recently recieved a nice dent in my door from someone at the local grocery store and the estimate to fix it was around 500. I noticed today that there is alot of rust on the bottum of the door where the two skins overlap. I'm wondering if it would be better to just replace the door because I hate to spend that kind of money and have rust coming back three years later. Are these doors easy to replace or hard? Heres another picture of the dent I need to fix. Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks again

Are you talking about just re-skinning the door, or finding a newer rust-free door at a salvage/recycling facility? The latter might be easier/cheaper since all you'd have to do is buy the door, get it painted, and transfer your glass/handle/trim over to it and mount it up on the truck.

$500 to fix that dent!? Someone should be able to do it for less than that. Check out a couple more places and see if you can get a better deal.

I'd find someone who specializes in dent repair.....they're out there, just gott search. We have a guy in my area thats been doing it for 12 plus years....I've used him twice already. Firts dent was $100 and the second was $80.....cheap compare to the body shop alternative.

Call around to your local car dealerships and ask them who they use. Some people do this on the side and they don't really advertise their buisness much because these dealerships give them enough business.

Someone use a Phillips screw driver and a hammer on your door? $500 does seem pretty high for that little thing. Not sure about the rust, maybe sand it down and have a paint shop shoot it, though with any painting, the entire door will probably have to be repainted. So getting it rust free shouldn't be bad assuming the rust isn't really deep or anything.

Check and see if there is a Dent Wizard person in your area. A lot of times they work with body shops and auto dealers to set up appointments. My good friends Brother-in-Law has been doing it for 10 years now.

Thanks for the replies. I had orginally hoped that it could be done by the dent removal people but two body shops I have went to said no way. Maybe they are just saying that so that they get my bussiness. If I can get it done this way then I will try to POR 15 on it to hold it. I do need to touch up the paint in one spot but thats easy. It doesn't have to be perfect, the dent is just an eye soar and I see it every time I get into the truck.

Frankly, guys, I highly doubt a PDR guy would touch that dent. It could potentially crack the paint all around the deep point of that dent where paint was already compromised.

At least that's what my PDR guy has said in the past when I've had him look at dents similar to that. (Before you all go trashing on my PDR guy, don't. He's got about a decade of experience and does excellent work for me on my customers' cars, so I am inclined to believe what he says).

Yea I will ask around on monday. I plan on going to a couple dealerships to see what they say. I hate to have to paint the door and the extended cab door to blend it. Maybe should just wait and save money and have some other spots touched up.

Something along that line. It definately doesn't look like an accident. I mean, what could've possibly hit that high up in a parking lot.

For your rusting out doors I highly recommend a rust preventative such as http://www.krown.com/#default or www.rustcheck.com

I am not sure where you live and what's available, but try and get this done every year or 2 and you won't regret it!

If it's not available then use a silicone based spray around your seams, edges, inside your panels etc. Do not use WD-40, it contains no silicone and is basically useless imo.
