I have been trying to find out what drive train components that my truck has. I have tried to use to code that is in my glove box, but it has not been any help. My truck is a 2003 1500 Z71 - Manual Transfer Case - 4 speed Automatic Transmission - 4.8L 8 cly Engine. Can someone help me correctly identify what are my drive train components? Where do I look for the identification numbers for the engine, transfer case, transmission (does it require a deep pan filter or a shallow pan filter), front and rear differentials. How much oil do I need for each component?

Didn't you get an answer in this thread?

Did you look at all the RPO codes in the glove box?

You can easily measure the depth of your pan. I think shallow pan is 2 1/4", the deep is 2 7/8"

4L60 (M30 RPO code) has 16 bolts. 4L80 has 17 bolts.

11 qts total fill

Codes for transfer case look like this: NPx.

NP2 is a NVG 241

Your diffs should take 5 qts for both. 8.5/8.6 ring gear

Transfer Case Identification

The identification tag on the rear half of the transfer case provides the following information:

  • The Model number

  • The Transfer Case Assembly Part Number

  • The Serial Number

  • The low-range reduction ratio

I could be wrong... but I have never seen a truck with-out the deep trans pan. MS3DALE can verify that.

Neither have I, but there is a listing for a shallow pan. It's easy to confirm by measuring, especially on a 4x4. :fume:
