9.5 14 Bolt

Hi I was just wondering why my 1/2 ton truck would have a 14 bolt and what were the gear ratios available for them in 1993? Any help would be great thanks again, great site.

1/2 ton trucks didn't typically come with the semi-floating 14 bolt rear end (9.5") from the factory, but it wasn't totally uncommon...some towing options, and 'levels' of trucks came with them...some government/service trucks and I'm pretty sure the 454SS trucks did too. But, the 6-lug SF 14 bolts were mostly found in light duty 3/4ton trucks. My guess would be that your half ton has some extra heavy duty leaf springs in the back and would have been kind of a "1500HD" before that nomeclature was actually born.

Check your RPO codes in your glovebox to see what your gear ratio is, or pull the diff cover and check the stampings on the ring gear. My guess: 3.73 in a 1/2 ton.

Your truck has the heavy-duty chassis package,Look in your glovebox on the SPID label,You should see RPO code "F44"

The heavy-duty chassis package includes the semi-floating 9.5" rear-end w/bigger 11.15x2.75" rear brakes,along with an extra leaf in the spring pack.

It also increases the GVWR 400 lbs.,from 6200 lbs. up to 6600 lbs.

I had two trucks that I special ordered with this package,a '94 and a '97.
