180* Thermostat For A Nnbs Part Number

I want to install a 180degree thermostat in my 08 5.3ltr. The only part number I can find is a stant. I want a better quality stat than that one. I found an acdelco part number of 131-160 but I cannot verify it is the 180 degree thermostat.

You'll need to have your truck re-tuned for that thermostat.

I'm going to have it tuned next week. I had a 170 in my 01 sierra with a 5.3 with a tune for 9 years and 125kmiles and like the way it ran. We don't see cold weather to amount to much down here in louisiana but we do see the hot. The lower thermostat kept the tranny cool which is part of the reason that I think it still shifted as strong when I sold it as the day I had it tuned. I'm still debating it I just was looking for the part number in case I decided to do it.

These engines need to be at a certain temperature to boil off condensation in the crank case. We don't run the 160 thermostat on our vehicles as we don't see them as beneficial

Add a tranny cooler if you want cooler tranny temps. It's the best way to do it.

I still say the same about the 180. What are the benefits you are hoping to get from it?

I agree with others, leep it stock, and add a cooler if need be.

Not sure about the 900's but the 800's came stock w/ a 186 degree stat....waste of time and money to change it if that's the case.

Just checked www.rockauto.com....you've got a 186 in there now according to their site.

I think that your right. There is a guy on another board that installed one in his 07 and he said he didn't notice any difference in temps and was going to remove it. So after l-tubes and cat back swap I think that a cai, pulleys, and a tune are going to be it for the truck.

most of the new stuff runs like crap with a cooler t-stat.. they never get into closed loop, and drinka-da-gas
