2002 Z71 Security Light Question

Can anyone tell me what this might be a sign of or if this is normal and I just didn't notice it before? The light on the message center of the dash has started flashing "security". Here's the scenario: I park, turn the ignition off, pull the key, and open the door. It starts flashing when I open the door. The truck is an '02 Silverado Z71. I don't recall seeing this before, but I seldom drive this vehicle. If it matters, the truck does not have a remote starter or a chip of any kind in the key.

Thanks TraderJohn. It probably sounded like a dumb question, but I just haven't driven it enough to remember if I had seen it before. Of course they say your memory is one of the first things to go, and I forget what the next was.

When our S10 started doing that it wasn't long until it wouldn't start. The key wasn't accepted by the brain. Turned out to be the harness that feeds the security key signal to the computer.

As stated by TraderJohn that's normal for your 02....anytime the door is open and the key is out of the ignition the security light will flash.
