Tune For My 2009 5.3l?

I would like to add a little more power to my truck without killing the MPG, if thats possible? I really don't know much about trucks, every car I have have had tuned I had to replace or send out the ECU, but it seems like alot of trucks use programmers.

I have the 5.3L in my 09, and I would like to get a tune where I could switch between stock and power, so I could keep the same MPG if I wanted. The only other mod I would plan on is a intake, I will not put an exhaust on the truck because I use it for work and sometimes have to drive around with clients, I cant have it too loud.

What are my options, and I'm located in NY, is there any place around I could get it tuned here?

I just had mine done in person. The tuner is in Amsterdam NY. Does great work. Let meknow how far that is for you? Don t forget, the 09 with the 6spd can only tune the trans in person. Do a search too, tons of pages of info...

You may want to search the forum. Use the following search in Google:

5.3 AND (tune OR tuning OR (hand AND held)) site:gm-trucks.com

In a nutshell, you can get a custom tune (e.g., Blackbear), or you can get a handheld (e.g., Diablo Predator). There are benefits to both. Specifically, the custom tuner can adjust both the PCM and TCM parameters to match your specific driving style and truck performance. On the 4-spd, you can buy a spare PCM and TCM and keep the stock modules. I don't know about the 6-spd? The hand-helds allow you to have multiple programs. Most hand-helds adjust both the PCM and the TCM with a canned set of parameters, but the one with the most user-adjustable features (Diablo) doesn't (yet) support the TCM. The Diablo also allows you to log your engine and get a custom tune, or go to a dyno shop that does this (if one is nearby).

You have no shortage of options for tuning the 5.3.

Edit: modified the search for hand-held.
