Gmc05Z71 Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 ok i have 2005 gmc z71 4x4 with 17 stock rims. I wanna gte some Bfg mudd terrains which size would be better on gas mileage but still pull like hell through mudd 255/75 or 285/70??? this truck is my daily driver.
Matt_ Posted September 26, 2009 Posted September 26, 2009 well... 255/75/17 = 32.3x10 285/70/17 = 33x 11.2 The 285s will look better and would likely pull better in mud. But the 255s are shorter and thinner and thus would yield better gas mileage. BTW stock tires are 265/70/17 = 31.8x10.5..... so the 255/75/17s won't really be much different in size except that they're thinner than stock. I'd say go with the 285s... and if you're that worried about gas mileage, then get stock sized (265/70/17). I see no benefit to the 255s you've asked about.

Not exactly an answer, but fwiw, I had those on my last truck. They were great off road and mud tires. But they were very loud on pavement and tread life was about 1/2 what I got from the BFG A/T KOs I replaced them with. Since it's your DD, I thought I'd mention it.
