i have a 96 350ci silverado sportside can anyone tell me what are the differances between z71 and ordinary truck as may resticker

From what I remember, the Z71 had better gas-charged shocks and some additional skid plates on the underside. I can check this evening for the plate locations on my old truck, I will also look at the window sticker (yes I still have it) and see if there is anything there as well.

... based on reading this and other forums I have found that a 1996 Z-71 truck will have 3 upgrade items installed:

- Bilstein gas shocks;

- skid plates;

- Z71 stickers...... that's all

... and apparently in order to get Z-71 in those years (gmt400 trucks) the truck also needed to be a 4-wheel drive and have another option for the upgraded alloy wheels and upgraded tire size (265/75R16) ....

... yah, I think they do to... you can buy them on ebay for $20/pair and stick them on yourself

... if it came with 4x4 stickers then it did not likely have the gas shocks out of the factory... but you can buy a set of Bilsteins, or KYB for a couple hundred bucks (in the U.S. -- but we pay more for parts in Canada... but that it another story)

The Z71 also had the high-volume air cleaner. The air filter is about twice as big.

Oil filter is same for all trucks, Z71 has nothing to do with that.

Z71 can be identified by looking at option code label in glove box, Z71 is an option code; NZZ is skid plate package option code.

I had a new 1996 Silverado with Z71

It included in the Z71 package

HD gas charged shocks

Suspension jounce bumpers

Z71 Side decals

*NZZ Skid plate package

*K47 High Capacity Air Cleaner Note-Only the filter was bigger, same housing

*Optional on other models also

Z71 Required optional 265 tires (at extra cost)

Correct me if I am wrong but i am almost positive the Z71 had a posi rear-end too. Which is a difference in the Z71 and the regular 4x4 package

It wouldn't be a posi, it would be a G80 locking diff and these were not a part of the Z71.

You are wrong on that. It may not be due to being a Z71 but some of the 98's use a different filter.

I am with El Camino on this one. Please post the filter #s. There were long and short filters, the only difference being length, both would work...

Now I don't agree with El Camino on a lot of things, but he has been selling filters for 30 years.
